I agree about Al Ewing. I recall that issue in Loki Agent of Asgard and you get the sense that Loki was being upstaged in his own comic. I liked the little sub plot with the local tradesmen arguing over local affairs. It was interesting to see mention of a mosque being built in Doomstadt factor in as a part of the argument with the two workers.

I just remembered that Nick Spencer did write a bit of Doom in his Superior Foes of Spider-Man, a very entertaining series with Fred Myers AKA Boomerang. It's cast included his team mates from Sinister Six. Since Spider-Man villains tend to be street level, you get more of a working class group of guys who really haven't been very successful in life.

So to cut it short, Boomerang leads the Six on a heist at the lair of the Owl, who is a big crime boss. Fred misleads them on the purpose of the mission and he tells them they're going to steal the head of crime boss Silverman, which the Owl keeps in a box. But what Fred is really after is a painting of Doctor Doom that the Owl has, one that Doom commissioned for himself. He figures he can score big on this. The whole backstory of the painting is hilarious and you may have come across it, if you haven't read it already. Doom posed for the picture in the nude after having a little too much wine. And now he wants it back. He only makes a few on panel appearances in the series but I would recommend tracking this down if you don't have it already. All this takes place over a 12 issue arc of misadventures and double crossing with the talking head of Silvermane being a part of all of it.

I always wondered what the tone of Spencer's Victor Von Doom series would have been. Would it veer off into something wacky about Doom like "Superior Foes" does or would it have been more serious? It's hard to tell. Doom has always been pretty unique in comics in that you can have some really great dramatic stuff and then you get the silly things. In last month's 4 Yancy Street (writer Gerry Duggan) with the Thing ( I don't want to spoil it), has a surprising Doom appearance. IMO this was more in the spirit of what Doom's relationship was with Ben in Infamous and Marvel 2 in 1. I had no idea Doom was going to be in this but bought it because the preview said it featured the return of the Terrible Trio. They have to be Doom's most loyal henchmen if he still employs them after all this time!
