Really liked this preview. once again though, I am confused as to just what Doom's face looks like since his last encounter with the Hood (or more likely a Mephisto possessed Hood methinks). Then we got the strange misshapen head in Fantastic Four #1. At least this looks somewhat consistent with what we saw in that lamentable Fantastic Four issue.
Victor is understandably disappointed that Stephen believes the accusations, almost more than he is that Reed only sent a H.E.R.B.I.E that's not even fully updated to know he should be addressed as Doctor Doom. :-) Seeing Silver Sable there is a shout out to a long ago story where she was on friendly terms with Doom back in her solo series. I like the variety of guest stars Cantwell is tossing in the mix.
Honestly, it's so much not like Reed to not turn up in person or at least send a better representative than a poorly-programmed HERBIE, it makes me wonder if there's something going on at his end. We're told that this dodgy black hole project is a Stark-Richards joint venture but we haven't seen even a brief TV screen cameo of either of them promoting it, so now I'm questioning whether the whole thing's somehow part of the sham to get at Doom. Also interesting that the other two escorts are both people with fairly good past relationships with Doom. Did they volunteer out of curiosity about what's going on with this surrender, like you would have expected Reed to? Is he being set up to have an easy escape to make him look worse and stop the truth coming out? Still lots of possibilities at this point.
In my head canon I want to think both Silver and Stephen came because of the connections with Doom has been mostly less adversarial than with Reed. And maybe deep down they want this not to be true. I was surprised that Stephen came out on the side of the news reports but maybe he's thinking things over now. I keep going back to he is one of the few who had a lot of dealings with Victor post SW, esp the talk they had in Infamous and ended up fighting Mephisto together. He may be thinking OK, maybe not Mephisto this time but someone is trying to their best to put Doom in jeopardy. Would Marvel governments treat him like Panama's Noriega, one of the more recent cases of a head of govt. being tried in other countries for crimes. Of course, the nature of his crimes were not on this scale that Doom is being framed for. I would think a guilty verdict for Victor would mean execution.
So we have to think who gains by this? It has to be someone or a group with resources and I'm leaning towards it being the Intelligencia as I've mentioned but future issues promise a run in with A.I.M. and M.O.D.O.K, who was a part of the Intelligencia. Don't know what the current status is of the Red Ghost or the Wizard but the Mad Thinker has been working with both Reed and Doom not too long ago in Hickman's FF.
Oh well, tomorrow we'll know more...hope it's a good one. I did see where they didn't come up with a new cover for the second printing of issue #1. They are going with the splash page of Doom asking Petra about Boris. It does make for an iconic Doom cover.
