This week's comics, upcoming comics

This turned out to be a sadly Doom-free week, so, a bit of a roundup post in place of proper reviews.

FF #11

This issue temporarily leaves the Doctor Doom plot to focus on what's going on elsewhere. But he should definitely be back from issue #12 onwards, because that kicks off the long-promised "All hope lies in Doom" plot. In the meantime, everything else is coming to a head:

* We discover that the FF kids' secret project is building a translocator that covers three floors of the building, allegedly so they can evacuate the whole place in an emergency, but Val possibly has ulterior motives too.

* Cultists loyal to Annihilus have been buying up sites in a ring around the Baxter building, installing amplifiers that will allow them to expand the bridge between Earth and the Negative Zone, allowing Annihilus to send a whole army through the portal.

* Reed finally admits that he's been an idiot for trying to handle something this major alone for so long and calls in a bunch of allies to help, including She-Hulk, Black Panther, Namor, Doc Strange and misc Avengers and X-Men. There's a nice little moment between She-Hulk, Sue, and Ben.

* Meanwhile, Ronan and Crystal have infiltrated Attilan themselves, and acquired the two evil Reeds that the Inhumans took captive. Ronan judges them and finds them guilty of crimes of arrogance and, in a very creepy scene, uses the two of them as the raw material to create a new Supreme Intelligence to lead the Kree.

As The F4 and their allies prepare to leave for Attilan, they discover that the Kree fleet has just arrived to attack Earth...

Amanda Von Doom

The new character of Amanda Von Doom debuted in Incredible Hulk #1 this week, although, bizarrely, it seems that she shares no connection with 'our' Doom.

My name is Amanda Von Doom (no relation).

It remains to be seen whether there's a further twist coming in this character's origin or the whole thing was just a rather weird attention grab.

November Comics

Victor Von Doom #1 has apparently been delayed, so it's now coming out on the 23rd of November. ...Which is the same date as both Avengers: Children's Crusade #8 and Fantastic Four #600. That's going to be an epic week.

December Covers

CBR has a pair of connecting variant covers for Fantastic Four #601 and FF #13, which feature Doom charging into battle alongside all the book's other heroes.
