I haven't been reading Dan Slott's Iron Man so I can't say whether or not there was any follow up there. I doubt there was any but can't be sure. It's just too hard to keep up with all these titles and some really don't interest me anymore. I find it easier to just wait and check some of them out when they appear on Marvel Unlimited.
It would be good to see Tony and Rhodey at least acknowledge that Doom saved them from the demon-possessed Hood. I bet that Tony never brings it up again but I hope I am wrong.
BTW I did read Strike Force #1 and the team (Winter Soldier, Blade, Wiccan, Spider-Woman, Angela and a few more) did go to the Temple of the Vishanti. Wiccan informs the group that Doctor Strange and Doom fought there. I wish he had said he "almost step-father". Now this makes me curious about the issue were Doom does appear and if the writer will revisit that.
Speaking of abandoned subplots, the one that still is out there is one that Ed Brubaker had in Captain America some years back. The Red Skull's operatives discovered some information on a mysterious man who came to Germany from another land and quickly made himself the ruler of a small kingdom in Medieval Germany. He was described as another Da Vinci who created many advanced tools, flying machines and mechanical men.

I kept this link bookmarked where Ed Brubaker gives an interview about it. Too bad no one followed up on this. I was hoping it would explain where the Von Doom name came from since that is not a name one would expect a Romani family would have.
