With Doom, I can't tell if it's just erratic writing or if the way he seems to swing from delusional Silver Age ranting to his sharper, more perceptive self is a sign that he's up to something.
And yeah, that moment with Medusa and Ahura was great. After last issue, I was a bit worried that Lee Allred's writing was going to be all wacky humour at the expense of the characterisation, but there were some great character moments in this one.
