A brief but worthwhile cameo for Doom and Valeria in this week's Fantastic Four:

It seems Marvel is conducting a campaign this month to bankrupt me with expensive but good-quality Doom appearances. This issue was apparently supposed to come out last week, so it actually takes place before Agent of Asgard #6, but there's some good stuff in here even with the outcome somewhat spoiled by reading that first.

Doom gets another brief cameo in the latest Fantastic Four (it double-shipped this month, so we're now up to issue five).

Unexpected cameo of Doom! Just a tiny one, so I won't bother recapping/reviewing the whole issue.

The conclusion to the story...

And that's that. Have to confess I'm very much looking forward to next month's relaunch; this storyline definitely ended better than the draggy way it started, but still, this really has not been one of my favourite F4 runs.

New artist for this issue, Raffaele Ienco, and again, it's Karl Kesel writing to Fraction's outline.

Newsarama has the news from NYCC: the current run of Fantastic Four will end after issue #16 and James Robinson and Leonard Kirk will be taking over for the relaunch. FF is also ending at issue #16, but no word on what will happen to the book after that.

According to CBR, he's stepping down in September after Fantastic Four #12 and FF #11. Karl Kesel's taking over on F4 and Lee Allred on FF to finish up the current story arc according to Fraction's outline; no info yet whether they'll stay on afterwards or we'll see another change of writers after the arc comes to its end in issue #16 of both titles.

CBR has the lettered preview for Fantastic Four #9.

Tiny spoilers )

In other intriguing news, this Tom Brevoort interview about New Avengers reveals that Doom will be back next issue:

The introduction of Doom to the proceedings is not a one off, minor thing. We'll see him again immediately in "New Avengers #7, so he's definitely a player on the chessboard at this point.

Looks like the long, Doomless drought may finally be over! (...This is going to be bad news for my wallet.)

Sad to reach the final issue of Jonathan Hickman's fabulous Fantastic Four run. There's a definite sense of the storyline being wrapped up before its time, but it's gracefully done, and I'm pretty glad Hickman got to do it himself instead of leaving it for someone else to handle.

Spoilers )

All in all, a very satisfying finish that still leaves me a little wistful for what might have been in a world where Hickman got to stay on. Looking forward to the follow-up in FF #23.
